Homemade Chai Tea

2 cups Water
2 Individual tea bags
Cinnamon stick (3 inches)
6 Cardamom seeds (crushed)
1 Whole clove
1/4 tsp Ground ginger
2 1/2 cups Milk
1/3 cup Sugar

Garnishments:  Sweetened whipped cream, ground cinnamon, additional cinnamon sticks (optional)

 

  1. In small saucepan combine water, tea bags, cinnamon stick, cardamon, clove and ginger.

  2. Bring to a boil and reduce heat; cover and simmer for 5 minutes

  3. Stir in milk and return to a boil for 1 minute

  4. Strain and discard tea bags and spices

  5. Stir in sugar until dissolved.

  6. Ladle into mugs and garnish with your choice of toppings.. To make an attractive drink I like to add some whipped cream with cinnamon on top and a cinnamon stick on the side.
